Root vegetables have a naturally sweet taste so are perfect for purée baby food and are unlikely to cause an allergy. Orange fleshed vegetables like carrot, sweet potato and pumpkin are rich in beta carotene - the vegetable source of vitamin A which is important for growth, fighting infection, healthy skin and hair. Cooking vegetables in a steamer is one of the best ways of preserving nutrients. Cooking times will differ depending on which vegetable you are using. Use single ingredients to begin with and then you can start mixing the vegetables together.
